Mise en Scene is a really important aspect of creating a film. I relied on it quite alot to help portray the character if Brie. She is the main character , so the opeining of the film needs to have good represetnation of her who her character is, so that the audience can pick up on this.
"magazine cut-outs and CD covers of rock bands such as Reel Big Fish , The Offspring , The Clash and Guns n Roses and photographs from live shows, all blue tacked and starting to lose there stick"
I think this is really important as it show her solidarity. There are no pictures of family or friends on her walls, the fact that they are coming away from the wall also shows that they have been there for a while, portraying the fact that Brie is in effect 'stuck in a rut' doing the same things day in day out, her life doesnt change much. The fact that she has no family or friends is then reinforced later on when we see the photo frame with the original photograph of a child playing on some swings in it. I thought this worked well as again it shows that she doesnt care as she hasnt bothered to change the picture but it also hints at a possible subconcious yearning for childhood, when everything is easy, fun and problem free. Although the bands i chose for the pictures differ quite alot from 'ska' to 'punk' to 'rock' i thought it worked well as shows Brie chooses music over relationships, as perhaps she finds it easier to relate to lyrics, as she doesnt have to deal with the emotional connection that comes with companionship. She would rather listen to somthing produced by people she doesnt know, whos problems she doesnt feel enclined to deal with.
"pile of bills the most recent, with FINAL DEMAND"
This was really obvious but i though it would be a good idea to have it in the script as later on her electricity is cut off. I didnt think the audience would pick up on this so i added the bills in before it happens as to reinforce it. It also shows the element of her personality that is un-caring, she cant be 'normal' as everyone has to pay bills, its kind of her F you to the world.
